FEATURED PROJECT: Invitation, Digital Printing & Thermography
Jun 3rd, 2010 PROJECT: Invitation, response card and envelope.
GOAL: In this case the client was a designer. He had the basic design concept nailed down before the first meeting, but was also looking for something a little special and different, all while keeping an eye on the budget.
PROCESS: Met with the designer to understand the design goal and to provide production suggestions on how to provide a unique twist to his project. Landed on the idea of black on black thermography printing for the inner envelope (raised printing that has a gloss to it -look closely at the image and you'll see a digital represenatation of it). He thought it was just the ticket to compliment the design goal for this invitation. Worked together to come up with the idea of using a white envelope as the outer envelope and the black "thermography'd" envelope as the inner envelope. The white outer envelope provided a solution for easier addressing while giving the right "feel" and impact to the invitation and avoiding problems with the post office that can be associated with a black envelope. Made the RSVP card into a postcard instead of a "card and envelope", and discussed postage pricing on a square mailing. Designer press checked the envelopes and invitations.
RESULTS: With creative production planning, they were able to get the unique invitation they were looking for...on a budget. The designer loved them, and ultimately his client loved them.
LISA'S NOTES: We are generally a business printer - working with small businesses and large corporations - but it seems lately that we have had the pleasure of producing at least 1 wedding invitation per week for both designers and brides. "Back in the day" when I was selling wedding invitations at a quick printer, we just pulled out the Carlson Craft book and the brides picked an invitation, the font, and the color. There is so much more creativity and personal expression available in a wedding invitation now! And we are fortunate to have such a wealth of knowledge and wide range of production options under our roof to enable us to think creatively and "out of the box" for invitations and any other printing that needs a special touch. Highlight Printing is a well-respected Minneapolis printer that focuses on the complete needs of the client from creative to offset printing and digital printing, 3M Post-It notes, bindery, warehousing, fulfillment, mailing, and distribution.
